Also if the bearings in the fan clutch went bad, that would allow the fan to wobble or spin out of balance....thus allowing it to hit the shroud. You need to watch it run and make sure the fan is spinning straight and with resistance.

Got run it today with rad cap off. Absolutely no movement of water. Level just rises as it heats up. Picked up new water pump at Advance Auto I'll change the thermo stat while I'm at it and I guess as draining the collant I'll do the heater core bypass that I've been meaning to do.........
