Default Half-Shaft Installation

This is probably another dumb question and I will end up red faced, but here goes.

When I removed my half shafts from the differential yokes on my '73, I noticed that the trunion seats on either side were almost aligned with each other. I installed new u-joints and when I read the manual to re-install the haft shafts, it said to rotate the trunion seats so that they were 90 degrees apart. I guess I don't understand the operation of the differential well enough to know how this is possible. When I turn, for instance, the right diff. yoke, the left diff. yoke turns the same direction. The result is that they stay aligned.

Also, even if you did set the trunions 90 degrees apart, wouldn't that change the first time you went around a curve and one wheel turned faster that the other?? What am I missing here ???

You don't have to line them up 90 degree's from one another. Just install them. You are correct, they would change once you make a turn.
