I bought my 79 just over a year ago and have put around 3500 on it. I don't really drive it in the winter except on really nice days and the rest of the time I drive 40 minutes to work (40 miles each way) on the interstate. I hate to say it but gas mileage plays a big part in my decision to drive it or not. 10-12 for the vette or 22-24 for the toyota.

Since it's a used C3 I find myself going to work alot in order to pay for the repairs. Don't get me wrong I love to drive the vette. As far as mileage who cares. If you buy a vette for investment purposes you bought it for the wrong resason. I agree with the earlier post "Drive it like you stole it!"

I purchased the vette two years ago and have put 300 miles on her.
My excuses:
1). It's been in tear down mode even though I purchased it already 'done'.
2). I have two young kids and get almost ZERO time to do anything other than devote my time to them and work.
3). Got side tracked with a 69 Camaro and have dropped a house worth of money into that thing.

.......all that being said, I have a pile of parts going into the vette in the not too distant future and then I will DRIVE IT EVERY CHANCE I GET!!!!!!! *disclaimer...this will probably be about 500 miles a year*

There are trailor queens and museum peices out there and I do enjoy seeing them at shows. If your car is one of these articles then don't drive it. But if your like most of us, forget the investment, you will never get out what you put in, dollar wise. It's like model trains, a hobbie.....,drive it, fix it, build it, ENJOY it,love it and forget it. I don't keep track of what it costs to eat every day, my Vette is the food for my soul.

Holy Sheet.... I get between 17-19 mpg with my 73 L48 4 speed @ around 60 MPH

Im running a Holley Street Avenger 670 on an Edelbrock Performer

I normally will drive mine a couple of hundred miles a week, but I have been known to drive it a few thousand miles at one time. I like to take it out on the road and drive it day and night through state after state.

My 81 currently has about 166K miles on it and it still runs fine.

Have a very low miles 74 that has not been rained on in years. This sweetheart gets out of the garage for light exercise once or twice a month. Maybe 1,000 miles a year?

I drive mine as often as it will start. Actually, to work 2-3 times a week and several times on the weekend. Average about 8,000 miles a year. it was built to drive and yes, mine is a driver.

If you want a museum piece or a trailer queen that's fine, just do not expect to drive it. If not driven regularly, when you do decide to drive it, something will go wrong, dead battery, spongy brakes or worse.

Done about 60 miles since.

But here are the excuses.

1, Have been working away alot.

2. Been concentrating on my BMW's

3, Been driving my 1934 Wolseley

4. been driving my 1964 Zephyr 6.

And most of all, until all new chassis rubbers, etc - it was downright bloody dangerous !

Had to use the middle lane of the motorway and wander across the other two at random.

Rear trailing arm was loose. Its all OK now. Front chassis - 3 large cracks.

And as we know, being a bunged up 1981 model - the 1934 Wolseley is faster..............
BLASPHEMY!!!!

I drive mine all I freaking can!

mine is at 109k, got it insured and plated as a antique vehicle, so Im limited to 2000 miles a year, I think I just barely went over the 2k this year. Didn't drive every weekend.

There's some chance you will get your money back if you keep it 30 years (like my '69- 28 years for my '61).

Same here but I get 5,000 miles a year with full coverage for $298 a year.

I bought my Vette in December of 1999 and drove it as my daily driver until March November of 2003. Since Nov 2003 I've probably put less then 100 miles on it total. I just haven't had the time or money to work on it until recently so I'm just trying to get it back on the road now

Drive it everyday 54 miles round trip to work I've put on about 36,000 miles in the the 3 years I've had my '78 L82 4speeder. Been drivin' it since I scratched off that NJ Instant Lottery Ticket for $10,000.00. I always wanted one since my first ride in the back of my brother's '63 coupe when I was a youngster. I got a nice daily ride goin' south down NJ Route 18 towards Wall.
