I posted this on another site, but didn't get much feedback- has anyone ever heard of Professional Products or the Cross Wind intake manifold? I looked at pictures of it, and it looks like a spittin image of Edelbrock's Performer RPM Air Gap. Anybody have any experience with the Cross Wind?
Not sure but there are copy intakes from China that look like original Edelbrock.
I attend the large SEMA show in Las Vegas each year. There are several Chinese exhibitors / sellers that are making intakes and other parts that look very nice. I have not seen these parts advertised or sold around here (Michigan), but I imagine in CA they are common. Look for the lower price Chinese parts to become more popular. There quality on close examination looks very good. I have never asked the Edelbrock boys about this, but I will this year. I'm certain it would be a concern.
The other area where you see a lot of Chinese suppliers is in the wheel and tire building. There are dozens of aluminum wheel manufacturers.
To buy exhibit space is SEMA is not cheap. A basic 10 by 10 area is about 20K and if you want anything extra like power or an overhead sign installed, bend over. I attend with a close friend from Colorado Springs who sells products world wide and he tells me the cost is common all over.
Someone posted an earlier thread that Professional Products is the OEM for Summit intakes and they are made either in US or Mexico. I can't say it's fact but thats what was stated.

Summit intakes are NOT from professional products. The Summit intakes are made by one of the large American manufacturers.
Don't know about you, but if I have the choice between a US made original or chinese copy I'll payu a few extra $$ and get the original. How often do you buy an intake? Is an extra $20-$30 really that horrible?
I will spend a little extra money to keep Americans in their jobs....
You're not keeping anyone from losing their jobs...America's economy is based on the world's economy. That's just the way it works.
As far as the intakes go, I don't think I have seen either one of those intakes to compare the Edelbrock to.
Sorry I disagree. I work for a major corporation and it is working on outsourcing, etc. I'm not saying we can close up our borders, but the only thing BIG companies care about is the stock price/profit. I am not trying to start an argument, but sending business to other countries that were here in the US is pretty basic to me. We can get into the global economy and use some big words, but it is what it is....
I have nothing against buying overseas products, but almost everything I've purchased that was made in China was complete junk. They have absolutely horrible quality standards, particular controlling material properties. I twisted a 3/8" extension in half using my ratchet, and wasn't even trying all that hard .... they were suppose to be "high strength allow impact wrench extensions"
If the manifolds are from Canada, Japan, even Tawain .... I might consider it, but if they are made in China, run away man, run away I tell you. One last note, I've always had really good luck with Edelbrock.

I remember when I was young anything made from Japan was considered garbage. Then an American went over there and showed them how to build quality into there products. The American auto makers ignored this guy because they felt they knew what was best for the consumer. It became a national culture for Japan and Detroit has been trying to catch up ever sence. After years of dealing with Detroit's CRUD I will not buy anything new but a car made in Japan, but I will buy old fashened Detroit muscle cars, they are timeless and Japan can't touch them.
Makes me wonder If China will do the same.
I had one of those intakes on one of my cars several years ago (on a '69 Convertible) and it performed well.. I've talked to a few other people that used those intakes and all of them seem to be happy with them..
Would be great if someone would have dynosheets to compare the Edelbrock and the Professional Products intakes..
There is a guy named Mike Lewis...Lewis Racing Engines out in Ca who is very well respected in the Chevelle and general hot rod world. A while back he tested the Crosswind against the Air Gap and found the Edelbrock to be right at 10 Hp better on his dyno. He had lots of guys bringing them in to use and he just wanted to see.
Quality of them seems to vary. Some are very nice..some are very poor..just like everyone else I guess. I'm mainly talking casting quality.
The Summits are made by an American Co. for them..not by Professional Products....I can guarantee you that...I saw them being made.
I would also look very closely at the newest Weiand's. They are meant to go head to head with the Performers and I gather are doing VERY well if you have a milder build.
I would stick with the Edelbrock if it was me. You can find them on sale.
I haven't seen anything yet that the Air Gap doesn't seem to work great on. Even stuff you would think it would be too small for.

The cross wind intake is $70 cheaper than the edelbrock in the regular finish, and the polished one is half the price. I just saw on Horsepower TV that Joe took a tour of edelbrocks plant, and Vic showed him a side to side intake gasket comparison . The edelbrock lined up perfectly on the gasket and the cross wind was off some. So I'm not taking any chances- I'll get the edelbrock. I just don't want to go through the hassle of changing it if it doesn't pan out.
There was a web site I visited not too long ago that had an article about knock off intakes. After the changes the power dropped. They had detailed photos and measurements showing the inconsistancies in side the runners and webbing on the chineese copy. It looked nice on the outside but inside was a mess and didnt perform to the name brand models. I have one of the polished chineese ones I put on with my vortec heads & I remember the inside being all jagged and uneven as compared to the performer RPM that wouldnt install on the vortec heads. Here is the site. Its pontiac stuff but still deals with this topic.
Anyone ever ran the Weiand STEALTH? Its supposed to be good to 7k although it has a relatively low height, I think I could squeeze one under a 71' SB hood. I am wondering if it makes power or I would be better off going with an RPM air gap and switching to an L88 hood(aka. costing me another $1k)
