Has anybody installed a fuel cell in a C3 convertible?
I'm thinking in going with a 5 gallon fuel cell and I'm looking for any pointers on how to install it.. If anybody has pictures of such install would be great!
You have a 10 second convertible? Can you run that at the track in FL? (Sorry, didn't mean to hijack your thread. Just never saw your vert before)
At the track I'm legally a coupe because I use the hardtop.
I do have a 6-point bar and a unaltered firewall which makes me legal to 10.0. If I would go faster, I'd need a full cage!
The soft top hasn't been on the car for a long time but I still have it...

Why not just ditch the full size tank and run some aluminum cross beams to support the cell and sump it from there.
I suck at fabrication... Have no tools to cut any metal.. There is a set of brackets available for the fuel call but I don't know it those would work on a vette...

This is kind of off the subject. Is your 10 sec vet a solid axle?
Nope, it's a IRS car with Tom's 12 bolt.. I also have the axle and half shaft kit.
Van Steel got that setup for me and installed it! The trailing arms needed to be rebuilt for the larger bearings for the larger axles! (31/32 spline. Stock is 17 spline)
I have over 100 passes on the rear end without a single problem. I still run a posi, but I see a spool in my future..
When you want to put the car into the 9's do you forsee a solid axel ?? Ever want to go faster than high 9's with that car ??
So far, I'm going to stay with the IRS, but I might go with a Ford 9 inch at one point..
Greg Eaton runs mid 8's with the IRS..
I want the car to run 9's or even 8's at one point.. Every year, I'm faster..
I will also need a cage once I consistently run 9's... That is not going to happen until my next engine rebuild... My next setup will run 9's on engine and 8's on spray, but it might only be in '08...
not unless I blow up my engine...
I'll stay with the same heads etc
. nut will go with a 422 or larger bottom end with a Dart M block, 15:1 compression. 250 - 400 shot of nitrous..
I might even consider a TH400 for that setup!
I'll also upgrade to a spool etc...
That engine should run 9's on engine and 8's on spray.. We will see...

At that kind of power level a powerglide would probably be better, particularly on a small tire car. I know it is in the futue, but it is always fun to plan the next combination.
You need to start spraying now so you can learn how to run nitrous without hurting stuff.

I doubt that my tranny would hold up too long with nitrous.. I'm going to wait to use nitrous once I'll upgrade my transmission..
You can drill holes can't you? Then you can mount a fuel cell also.... take out the tank and you can put a tiny one in there, it should not be a problem fitting one..I got a 32 gallon one in there w/ some mods. 5 gallons is no problem, my dry sump tank is 5 gal.

Well, the question is: where am I going to drill the holes into? The original tank is held by a small crossmember which is too low for the fuel cell.. I also won't drill holes into the fiberglass on top to mount the cell against the top... My question is mostly on what to bolt it down against?? Don't see any metal parts on top where I can bolt it to
modify the straps that hold in the tank. SHORTEN THEM. I have my tank out but Im having dillema of a sump the standard 12 inch by 8inch wont fit on it right. But for a street strip car 5 gallons wont get you far. Just far enough for the next gas station

My '68 is a track only car... Don't need more than 5 gallons...
The shortened straps won't help me becaus ethe tank crossmember sits too low for the fuel cell.. I would be able to tighten it down.. but it would sit too low..
ahhh I see. Thats gonna be tough finding a good solid mouting solution. Are you trying to save weight with the smaller tank? I also dont mean to hi jack your thread but since i have my fuel tank out does yours have a rubber liner in it like mine does???
