Default Interlock linkage - help!

I just installed my Muncie M20 and am having trouble getting the interlock linkage bolted to the tranny. If I disconnect the reverse lever at it pivot point, I can bolt the cable along with its retaining bracket to the tranny. The problem is I then cant bolt the reverse lever onto the tranny because the guide hole on the lever doesn't line up correctly. I can't muscle it and the lack of room to fit my hands up to the retaining bracket is making things real difficult. I figure I have to be missing some easy step to help me get this hook up.

Not sure if you would want to consider this or not but you could eliminate the interlock cable completely. All you have to do is remove the interlock and make a bracket of some sort to hold the lever on the steering shaft (under the brake booster) up in the park position permanately. This is a quick fix if you don't care about the cable being in the car.

Just a thought for you.

Forgive a simple question, but what interlock cable? is your car converted or something?

never heard of this one on manuall tranny, and i know my 68 doesnt have one

the interlock cable is part of a GM anti theft system which does not allow you to remove the key from the ignition until you have placed the car in reverse for a manual or park for an auto.

if you can remove your key in any location other than reverse or park, your system has either been broken or disabled by a previous owner.

hope this helps,

Mike.

edit: maybe they didn't use that system in 68.

Yes, I think it started in '69. I know my '69 Chevelle has it, but there's no cable on the Chevelle, it's all just linkage.
