Rear end ratio

How many differential ratios were available in 1979?

In 78 they were 3.08, 3.36, 3.55, 3.70 I doubt the 79 model yr was any different.

I just crawled out from underneath it and am betting it is 3.55

I just swapped the TH350 for a 2004r and need to work on the speedo calibration.

With the rear wheels off the ground and the shifter in neutral. place a piece of tape on the drive shaft and a piece on a tire. Have someone rotate the tire exactly one full turn and count the revolutions the drive shaft makes. 3 1/2 is 3:55 to 1 rear ratio, etc.

If you have to change the drive gear for the speedo, it probably would have been easier when the trans was out. I had to change the speedo gears on the 700r4 when I went to 3.73. It was hard to get at the drive gear, ended up pulling the trans cross member off to get at it.
