Does any one know where I can get my distributor vacuum and centrifugal advance checked and re-curved for my application. I have a 71 modified SB, with a Pertronix Ignitor II system.
This is a relatively simple exercise if you have an adjustable timing light and are just a little mechanically inclined. There's lots of good info here on the Forum if you do a search.
it is very possible for you to do it yourself although the very best method of properly setting up and recurving a distributor is if you can find someone with a Sun Distributor machine.
20-30 years ago you couldn't walk into ashop without tripping over one or two of them but now you will search high and low for anyone that still has one and knows how to use it........
If you can find someone with a Sun Maching than by all means have them do the recurve on that.
If you can't find someone that you can still do a pretty decent job yourself.

Gotta agree with this reply. Re-curve it on the engine. All you need is a timing light that has advance capability, and the knowledge that you can gain by reading the tech sheets by Lars and John Z that are posted on BarryK's website.
I am about to redo mine. The only problem you will run into is if you have to take up any wear in the advance plate. This slot will usually elongate and needs to be shortened up. Brazing the slot and then filing it to what you need is your best bet. I am going to have to shorten mine up. I am getting to much mech. advance for my setup.

Had to do the same with mine in my '65 Gordon. Centrifigal advance was suppose to be 24º but mine was giving me 32º!!!
Mine wasn't because of wear though, sometime in the past it had been deliberately made longer (old hot rod trick when MUCH better and higher octane gas was still available).
Mine had to be welded back up shorter to bring it to the correct length.
