Default stingray emblem

I have seen a metal stingray emblem on some cars. This an actual metal version of the actual stingray similar to the mako shark sold by someone on the forums. Does anybody know where to get the stingray?

There is a bit of a contradiction with that emblem. A stingray is not a shark. They are different animals.

If I remember my history correctly, that car is a show car called the Mako Shark, thus the symbol. But you are correct that having a shark emblem on OUR cars is a definite contradiction.

Mid year C2s are Stingrays.
C3s evolved from the Mako Shark styling car.
The Stingray name was carried over as a marketing feature.

Aren't mid year C2s called Sting Rays which is different than the C3 Stingrays?

Billy Mitchell who was GM'S design chief was an avid fisherman who luved the Stingray n the Sharks....So he gave the C-2 the sting ray nikname...now they were suppossed to use the Mako shark 4 the C-3 but they ran into problems n it wasn't ready in time....that's why there is no emblem on the 68'... Then with an outcry of vette owners wanting there sting ray logo back they resumed using the stingray on the 69' but this time it was spelled correctley as one word as to differentiate between the C-2 n theC-3...Also that's why the C-3's are known as the sharks..........Jerrylee///

http://ganeys.home.sprynet.com/STINGRAY.htm

STINGRAY refers to the body style. The new smaller body & chassis w/ I.R.S was introduced in 63. It applies to the 2 STINGRAY body styles 63-67 & 68-77.

The term mid years came about during C3 Stingray years to refer to the 63-67 Corvettes between C1 & C3. See Mako Shark (I) also.

Since 63, for 15 years (63-77) Corvette & Sting Ray were synonymous.

78- 25th anniversay of the Corvette- not Stingray. They were already working on the C4 & McLellan had said the styling would be reeled in. 84 induction & 700R4 were in production in 81. So the focus was on the C4.

Can be debated on 78-82. Many changes. Note that the 78- rear glass is reminiscent of the 63-67 coupe so it could have been continued.

CORVETTE says it all anyway.

A stingray is a member of the shark family, see site I have listed above, myself I think they are cooler looking than a shark. There are a lot of different types of stingrays.
