Default Starting issue

I have started to have a problem with starting my 69. Every now and then, I will turn the key and get nothing. No clicking or grinding. No noise whatsoever like I have a dead battery. The first time this happened, I turned the key two or three times then stopped to let the anger pass. Then I decided to try it one more time and the car fired right up. Now, whenever this happens, I just wait a few seconds and try again. It always starts.

This has happened both after sitting all night and after my commute home, so it doesnt appear to be a heat issue.

I have also noticed that on occasion my starter will hit a dead spot while cranking the engine. I will turn the key and it will go something like this: chug, chug, (dead), chug, start, and then I am off and running.

Solenoid on its last legs? Other possibilities?

Might be solenoid, also park lockout sw.
Your going to hear grounds, battery, this, that...
From your description though it is none of that.

I have heard of this lockout switch although I assumed it either didnt exist on my car or it was disabled. What did it do on a 69 4sp?

Mine was doing the same thing. I would get no click or anything. then I could take a screwdriver and jump across the solinoid and it would start. Next time its dead, try jumping the solinoid and if it starts, you know you have a bad solinoid. Justs change the starter all together and be done with it.

Jumping the solenoid tells you the solenoid works and the Start circuit doesn't. By jumping it you apply the 12v at the big terminal to the pickup term on the starter bypassing the key switch and lockout and all that.
