Re: I need to check out a VIN# for a 77. (Racer-X)
I don't have a "Carfax Account" but I can tell you the following about the car;
1.) This Corvette was manufactured at St Louis in the month of June in 1977.
2.) It left the factory with the L-48 engine (350ci, 180hp).
3.) Engine paint was changed from orange to blue early that year so a June car should have a Blue engine.
4.) The engine suffix code should be "CLA" (CKZ with manual trans).
5.) The block casting number was 3970010.
6.) The head casting numbers were 333882.
7.) The Carburator was a Quadro-Jet #17057202 for auto trans. With air, the number would be 17057204. With manual trans, it would be 17057203.
8.) The distributor number would be 1103246

Re: I need to check out a VIN# for a 77. (IxIx DRAGON xIxI)
Dragon is right. You need the new style VIN to check out insurance claims etc. I have tried this on a 72 with the same number of characters as your VIN.
Quite honesltly, a few minutes spent looking at each wheel well for tell-tale bonding, feeling the lines under the fender flares, and looking at the body from underneith should tell you a lot about the body. I am a complete rookie at detecting body repairs, but I can tell you from helping my buddy fix some "blems" on his car, it is very difficult to make the fiberglass appear like it came from the factory. Strolling through the For Sale field at Carlisle showed lots of cars that had been repaired.
Once you get serious about a car, find a body shop in your area that specializes in Corvettes and see if they will look at your car, for a fee.

I'm not sure about NH, but about every state I have ever lived in requires "REBUILD", or something simmular, prominantly displayed on the title if it is a restored wreck.
Good luck!

Correct! My carfax account ended about a month ago. You need 17 digits in your VIN. I think that eliminates most vehicles before 1982!
