Please post your opinion as to the best place for sensor location for an accurate oil temp reading.
I currently have the sensor (which was checked for accuracy before installation) installed on a t fitting on the block near the oil filter location. My gauge reads about 75 degress higher than indicated by an IR gun reading temp of oil lines to my remote oil filter or two pass oil cooler.
The t fitting is a dead end contact. In other words, oil does not flow through it, it is stagnant in the fitting. Does this matter?
Should I be reading at the block or oil pan or in the line to the filter/cooler or ?
I had the pan off and welded a bung directly into the side of the pan. The sensor is always submersed in the oil. Mine moves quit a bit. Stop in traffic and you will see it climb but within a few miles on the open road it quickly drops back down.
82 and C4 have it in the port in the side of the block just above the filter.
Just wondering...how do you get the plug out of the block in order to install the temp sensor? Is this one that needs to be heated to get out? Or should I try taking it out when the engine is hot?
