That edelbrock kit won't help much, though. All of the rods are M rods which have an .032 tip size, not the .026 that we want.
Do you know this for a fact? Did you buy the kit and measure the tips? I find it hard to believe that they would supply smog tuning parts in a kit meant for performance tuning. Anything is possible, but that doesn't sound logical.

The only rods they produce are the M rods. I would also think someone would cash in on something like that, if they did come with the k style rods, and sell that kit part by part.
If you'd like I can call edelbrock tomorrow and ask what the power tip size is on the rods in that kit.
Sorry to interupt fellas, and maybe I'm lost here, but what then is a good starting point for me. As far as rods and jets are concerned???
By the way,I pulled the pri. rods out of the edelbrock 1407 they are numbered 1747 and they look nothing like the pri. rods in the Q-Jet. Q-Jet rods are much shorter. Also I am now confused as to where I will be able to get the correct rods and jets for the Q-Jet. I must have picked up on some conflicting info.

I have one of their race kits and it doesn't have any M rods in it. Unless they changed something very recently they make more than just M rods.

Was it for an M4M or a 4MV q-jet? I've never been able to find any rods from edelbrock that weren't M rods, for the M4M q-jet. I know edelbrock makes the B rods for the 4MV and those are fine.

Wrong edelbrock series. You need parts for the edelbrock 19xx carbs, not the 14xx. The 14xx series are Carter copies while the 19xx are q-jet clones. The 14xx and 19xx have nothing that is interchangable.
To get you close to jetting your q-jet right you'll need like 48k rods and 75 jets. I'm using 47k/75 on mine with a mild cam, headers, and sidepipes.
Correct. However, I'm still skeptical as to whether or not it comes with M rods or K/P rods. If they are M rods, you can at least modify them to the k spec, though.

Current Edelbrock rods
Primary Metering Rods (Pairs)
Single Taper for Q-Jet Model 4MV (1974 & earlier). Dimension indicates maximum diameter of taper.
Those are the single pairs of rods you can purchase. I'm still curious what actually comes in that tuning kit. I guess I'll just call edelbrock myself and ask.
Edit: talking to edelbrock right now. The tech is even wondering why the rods available are only .036 tips. He's checking for me right now.
Edit2: Just finished talking to Edelbrock. They ONLY make rods with the .036 tips for the M4M and that race tuning kit comes with the same rods that you can buy individually. Sorry bigblockk, I called it right. The rods for the 4MV are all "B" series rods with the good .026 tip.
