Default 72 LT1 vert?

Hello,

I have been approached about a 72 vert Lt1 deal buy a dealer in TX and I wnated to get ya'lls opinion.

He said he bought a a 72 LT1 straight off complete restoration for 35K 2 years ago and an employee wrecked the car and while it was in the shop being repaired it was vandelized and the original engine was stolen.

He said he then sold the car to a friend that just stored it and never put her back togehter... and His friend is wanting to get rid of her now.

He claims all she needs is a engine ands the front end put back on and she is perfect again.

I have not heard what he wants yet he just asked if I would be interesed.

I said yes please get me photos and details.

I wanted to get your opionions of what something like this would be worth?

I'll let you know his price and put up some pics when I get them.

Thanks,

Michael

The motor makes it a LT1 with the original gone its just a 72 vert needing a motor and who knows what else. $5000. could be too much.

You don't give enough information to even venture a WAG. Wild A$$ Guess for the unitiated! Wrecked is a pretty open statement, meaning a lot of different things to different people. Wrecked could be fiberglass only repairs, frame damage, and a whole host of other things. I would suggest that you get an accurate description, including photos, before you can even dare to ask "what's it worth".

I will also say that, like the above post, without the original engine, you can have a nice driver and the LT1 cost factor doesn't even enter into the equation.

The price must be high or someone would have bought it and put a stamped block back in and made some money.

Without the engine matching the vin...It's no longer an LT-1 and pricing should start as a 72 vert. Then, take into consideration the condition and deduct from that point.

If the cops were bright, they'd watch who buys the car and see if the original motor somehow turns up. Some crooks use the theft approach to get clear title to a valuable car while paying the price for a standard one.

Sorry, buys but I disagree. If it is a 72 then the vin designates the car as an LT-1 and it will always be an LT-1 according to the vin. The LT-1 vin in my book gives the owner license to create a "restoration engine" and if he wants to tie it to his car for security purposes by stamping his social security number on the engine pad, or the car's vin number on the engine pad, that is fine with me as long as he doesn't then sell it as the original engine.

Still, as far as value, I have no FI, depends on condition, but to me it would be worth more than the same vert with no engine but with a base engine vin.

You would get the LT-1 hood and the vin so it would be worth a little more. With the engine gone it may show up at B-J as the real deal you never know. I'm sure some LT-1 nuts have all this down for future referance.
