Default Have you ever built one of these stands?

I plan to build another engine for my Vette this winter and want to store its original safely under the bench. Has anyone ever built one of these stands or can someone share the dimensions with any of us who may have considered such an idea. I know I'm mental but hey aren't we all!

Maybe I don't understand the question. But aren't these stands readily and cheaply available? I have a small block sitting in my garage, right now, under my work bench. I think I paid $35 for it at Autozone.

The only problem with store bought engine stands is that they support the engine from the back only. I think he is refering to the type that supports it at the front, engine mount area too. A lot less stress, I would think. I would love to have a set of plans for that. Anyone?

Joeveto is right. Those stands are easy to get and they do work well. They support the enging at the bell housing area and the motor mount points. I think the correct term for one is engine dolly.

You should be able to get them at a decent local autoparts store. If not, try J.C Whitney's or some such catalog store. I don't know what shipping would be to where you live, so I'd try local first. They are really common here at stores like Murray's and Autozone.

If you can't find one at your local auto store, harbor freight also sells them.
