Default Hood support on a '76?

When I bought the car it didn't have a hood support. I found one on ebay, and can bolt it to the hood, but I can't figure out how it's supposed to bolt to the body. It appears that this car had fiberglass work on the front and there aren't any bolt holes. What is supposed to be there? Thanks!

The support should have an l-shaped bracket riveted to it. This attaches to the gutter that runs around the perimeter (sides) of the hood. There is a hole drilled through the gutter and the support is attached w/ 1 bolt, washers and rectangular piece of steel top and bottom. Nothing fancy. Are you sure what you got from e-bay is complete? if not I think they are available new from catalog companies.

Yes, it has the L shaped bracket. There doesn't appear to be a hole in the gutter, and also no place for the second bolt below the gutter. If someone could post a closeup digital pic, that would be great. Thanks!

Can't help you with a picture maybe someone can. If not, ask someone if they can send you a scan of a page from the AIM. If you don't have one, this is an indispensible book that will come in very handy and is available from all the suppliers for around $25 I think. To be honest, it would probably be more helpful than a picture because it will list the part numbers etc.

I'm in Louisiana at the moment and my 76 is in Tennessee. I will take a couple of pics this afternoon and post. Right off the top of my head I seem to remember the same "engine compartment gutter" configuration as previously mentioned. Just curious - if those aren't attached, how do you keep you hood up when you open it?

Just got back home so sorry about the delay. That traffic between Alexandria, LA and Memphis, TN was a bear. Speaking of bears, they were out in force today. Bet I saw at least 50 in Mississippi alone. Glad I was cruising in the family van as they were very busy boys.

Anyway, here are a couple of pics I just took. Hope these help you out.

Thanks! It looks like there was some glass work done in this area and I'm missing the forward portion of the gutter with the bolt hole. I'm going to try and drill a hole a little farther back. Currently, I'm using an old chunk of wood molding to hold the hood up :(.
