Default Pertronix Ignitor or Ignitor II

I have a 73 L-48 and would like to upgrade the ignition to electronic. I have noticed that the Pertronix Ignitor is by far the most popular, but I also noticed that Pertronix also has the Ignitor II system which they claim to have a better "microcontroller" and handles dwell better. Does anyone have any experience with the Ignitor II system and would you recommend it for a 28 year old L-48 ?? Any suggestions on the Flamethrower coiL??

Thanks,

Kevin

Kevin,
i called pertronix and the tech guy said the pertronix II was much better than the old one. from what i understand the first one had a 3 second delay so you either cranked for 3 seconds before it started or turned the key to the "on" position for 3 seconds before it started. thats what i heard.
I LOVE the II... fires right up and was easy to install. The distributor
has to come out but no biggie. I also got their flamethrower II coil.
:yesnod: I put my old points in the glovebox just in case.... :D

Thanks, that's what I wanted to hear since I already ordered the Ignitor II. :p:
I also ordered the Flamethrower coil (not the II), hopefully this will give me a little better throttle response than with the points.

Don't forget the Mallory Unilite conversions as another possible alternative, Mine has worked out just fine so far, and was a very simple install.

Pat,
I decided against the mallory conversion when a good friend of mine who happens to own a speed shop said that he has had a number of problems with them failing. From monitoring this and other forums for quite a while it is obvious that the Pertronix is the most popular (or at least talked about the most positively).

Justin,
The best price I was able to find on the Pertronix was from Jeg's, the Ignitor is $71.99, the Ignitor II is $109.99. Let me know if you find a better price so I can be mad at myself for not looking harder. :p:

I understand "RetroRockets" has best prices...and FREE shipping. I ordered the coil from them.
