I'd set a daily driver at 40 degrees total. (as I remember, that is the spec from our old machine) If someone has a low compression engine, it appears they can bump it up after reading some posts. (I believe Coaster said 52)

40º total without vacuum advance is pretty high! detonation is going to be a major concern and with the vacuum advance connected will typically take it up to 55º - 56º which is again too high.

your second figure of 52º would be right on if you are figuring WITH the vacuum advance

It looks like I got everyone riled up on that one !!!

I have 37 degrees WITHOUT vacume and the car runs great!!
