I have a friend with a 1975 with air conditioning. He is finding some wetness (I assume that it is engine coolant) on his passenger side floor mat. He is afraid that the problem is a leaking heater core.
Has anyone used Bars Leak in their cooling system to stop a leak like that (even as a short term fix)? I understand that replacing the heater core in a Vette with AC is no fun.

I am or was the king of leak stop. Go ahead and use it. Use the light duty stuff though. The heavy duty stuff has all those heavy solids that clog everything in the engine and rad. Its that nasty looking stuff in the clear bottle. Use the stuff in the grey bottle.

Is it coolant, or fresh water? If it is water, it may be a leak from the cowl drain or somewhere.

No, but as a short term "fix" you could bypass it.
I think this is a better solution and VERY easy to do. Just loop one of the hoses on the water pump to the other nipple and remove the extra hose. This way he won't have to wonder what all he's clogged with the stop leak.

Hoses are different sizes. One is 5/8" and other is 3/4".
5/8-3/4 come on guys, that hose will stretch/reduce with a clamp, I use 1/2 inch copper water pipe for a nipple about 2" worth.....
second off, just bypass the heater untill summer is over, fix it when weather is nice, and you don't have to tear out the entire dash assy....
just the pass map pocket, and maybe center cluster..maybe...I forget...
the worst part of the whole deal is dealing with those firewall sealing crap...all dried out....I used black RTV for resealing....
only about 6 bolts or so to pull inner housing...a/c not affected....
