Default Rear Spring Identification?

Please don't be upset if this has been posted before, I searched and found nothing.

I am considering turning my "all stock" '81 into a street/strip/autocross car. Looking around under the rear of the car, I found a single leaf, non-metallic, rear spring. From what I gather on the boards, this is a fiberglass/composite spring. I'd like to know if there is any way to find the maker and spring rate of the leaf. Will it be stamped somewhere on the spring? Any help is appreciated.

Single leaf as in composite looking? Sounds like someone already replaced it once. My original fiberglas spring is multi-leaf, but fiberglas. I'm sure someone can tell you how to identify it. I wouldn't doubt that it's probably a VB&P spring, though.

Most of them are not stamped or marked. I went through the same thing as you. I called the factory that makes the ones that look like mine. They said it probably was one of theirs, but there is really no way to tell its rate by looking at it.

Well problem solved. 15 minutes under the back with a wet rag revealed a giant GM "Liteflex" sticker. Thanks for the info you guys.

In 81, Corvettes were installed with the mono-leaf rear springs. I've seen a few with the yellow stencil still on the spring. If it has any age...it's probably worn off but the part number is GM 9764141 and I would venture a guess and state you've got an automatic transmission. This should get you started.
