Default Do door panels warp?

The door panels on this 71 seem to be loose or unhooked at the top of the door so I took them off and reinstalled making sure the top of the panel itself was hooked behind the metal lips at the top of the door. But as soon as I closed the door they popped back off and are loose again. Is there something missing on these doors at the top like screws or something that is supposed to hold it tight to the door? My panels have the velcro on them and the two tabs on each end of the panel with screws to attach it to the door but nothing else. I'm wondering if they are just that warped from age or if I'm missing some parts to them.

Thanks,

Scott

Even with all the hardware, screws, and such in place they will warp. You are talking about 35+ year old pressed fiberboard/paper/whatever and they do warp. I do not know of any way to have them hug like they used to.

My 72 has dated, original panels that have pulled away at the top, center but I would rather have originals than repros any day.

Thanks for all the helpful information. The picture was perfect because my door panels do not have those 2 screws in them at the top. They must be repro panels. Where would I look for a date on originals just to be sure?

My panels have ink stamps on them and the only way to see it is to remove them. It is fairly simple job even for the novice. If you decide to take this route, go slowly and look at the various attachment points to remove. The ink stamps are located in the middle of the door panel, more or less.
