Stripped, now what?
I am brand new to the fourm. I have a 71 coupe, 350 auto trans. I have almost stripped the paint down to the red primer. I have some galss work to fix and grind down the seams to fix the cracks. What product do I use over the seams and what primer do I use first. I am going to paint it myself.
Thanks.
For all Vette body work there are three products you need...
Fiberglass mat, random strand, not woven!
( for big holes )
Long fiber filler.
( To fill large or deep holes Greater than 1" dia 1/8"deep )
Short fiber filler.
( for small holes and thin patches < 1/8" deep )
Glazing putty for pinholes and scratches.
All these products are Vette specific and come in two styles FRC(?) is the newer one I think, make sure you get the kind made for your Vette.
Bondo is for Rustangs, Not Vettes.
For seams for example I'd use the short strand filler, just enought to fill the crack. Oh yea, cracks should be ground out and tapered to prevent them from reforming. Don't just lay filler over the top!
For primer I use PPG K36 with the activator. Good sandable high build.
