Power steering leak. Safe TSing?

Power steering leak. Safe TSing?
I have a pretty good leak in my power steering system but the bottom of the car was so covered in fluid when I looked I have no idea were it is coming from. Any help on doing this safely in my driveway? I figured I could clean up the mess, raise the front end, re-fill the pump, start the motor and have the wife cycle the steering but I'm really not comfortable under a car on jack stands with the engine running. Will a leak show without the power steering pump not turning, aka, engine off?

you will need to clean it up pretty good. Block the back wheels and raise the front enough you can see under there, Spray it down with Gunk or some sort of engine cleaner and hose it off. wipe down the connections on the hoses. Refill and start it up, check it quickly. Then rotate the steering and recheck.
Be carefull. would be better on a level shop floor with all 4 wheels off the ground

PS pumps and lines don't hold all that much fluid. You say the underside of the car is covered with it. Sounds like it's been leaking for quite a while.
Got a pressure washer? Sure makes undercar clean up a lot easier. Quicker too.
