Default Clutch Fork Tension

I have got the new clutch installed and since I am a noob I am not sure what the tension should feel like when I use my hand to push the clutch fork back and forth. I just want to make sure that I got it in correctly before I tighten down the engine and tranny. The clutch fork is not fully connected to the pedal and linkage yet (mainly the big spring that connects the cross-shaft to the firewall - because the steering column is out) but I am just looking to get a "it should feel like this" when you move the clutch fork with my hand.

You cannot depress the clutch by hand unless your are a 250 pound gorilla. You should adjust the clutch till it takes up all the slack.
That should be a good starting point. The clutch should be adjusted with the car on the road. The clutch should completely release with the pedal about 1" from the top. Final adjustment should be done after the car is on the road.

Wooh. I thought I had installed mine incorrectly. I can't move mine at the fork by hand at all.

Well, you got me worried now because I can easily move my fork back and forth an inch or so
Should the fork be able to move at all (have Play)?
...I hate to pull everything out but I don't see any other way, do you?

Are you talking about moving the clutch fork by hand directly or from some other spot? I don't think there should be any play at the fork since it connects directly to the throw out bearing which is pushed up against the pressure plate. Good thread.
I'm getting ready to install my engine and tranny which is bolted together.
Hopefully someone with more experience chimes in.

Lastly, did you replace the entire clutch or just some components?

There should be something under 1" free play at the fork. The clutch adjustment specs call for about 1 1/4" free play at the pedal (as I remember) which translates to less at the fork. This ensures some clearance between the throwout bearing & the clutch fingers in the released position so the transmission stops turning and so you don't grind the gears.

I rechecked mine and I do have about an inch of free play at the fork.

I replaced the Clutch with a new one from Luk and had the flywheel resurfaced. I did not replace the ball stud and the fork.
I also adjusted out the linkage so that the first adjustment nut is on the last thread. I can still press the clutch pedal all the way to the floor without engaging the clutch (no pressure).

If it were me, I'd get someone to push the clutch in while I watched how far the fork traveled. Maybe a bent clutch fork?

Default Clutch fork on the t/o bearing?

Check your clutch fork install. Are you sure you installed it correctly on the t/o bearing? You didn't put the t/o bearing in backwords did you? Flat surface to the pressure plate.
