I had to replace the regulator gear in my drivers side window. My father in law had pulled the motor previously and said it worked at the time. I went to put it back in and after plugging it in I checked to make sure it worked before putting it back in the door nothing happened. So I figured it was bad and ordered some a remaned one from work same thing so I took it back figuring I had wiring issues and bought a tester. Well wrong I am getting power to the plug that goes into the motor so I just figured the remaned one was a defect not unheard of. But tonight I checked a third motor and nothing. I am not a wiring expert by any means but you can only plug these things in one way. Is there something I am overlooking since I didnt take the original out I am working blind. I thought maybe a ground or something? Any help would be appreciated.
those motors have 2 terminals. one up and the other down, ground is thru the motor case. Connect 12v to one terminal and ground to the case, then 12 to the other, see what happens. To check the wiring, use a test light (brake light bulb and a wire) connect to one terminal in the plug and ground the light, hit the button. Same thing other side..
Ive already checked the wiring and am getting juice to the plug. You say the ground is through the case if I left the gear retainer and its screws off would that affect the ground?
it will if there is nothing else connecting it to ground. Make sure your door is grounded, there is a ground wire in there somewhere that goes into the cabin wire harnes
I had the same problem. Three motors and window still would not go up. I used a tester and had power coming into the motor, so I eliminated the switch.
However, it was the switch. I was told the switch did not have enough power coming through it.
You may want to swap drivers and passanges switchs to check.
i also had same sort of symptoms, went through 3 motors. all three would make a very faint clicking noise but motor wouldn't move. so i took apart motor and checked it out. everything looked fine put it back together and started to work. went to put it back into car and forgot to put on the bracket for the cover that bolts to door. so i took the 2 long screws out and put bracket back on. now motor stopped working again. well what i found was that i was tightening these screws to tight so the motor wouldn't turn. as soon as i backed them off a little, everything works fine... so far so good... hope this helps.
well apparently the ground is the issue. I jumped the old motor directly off the battery and it ran fine. I then plugged it into the harness and used a jumper cable to ground it off the battery and it ran fine as well. Should touching the motor case to the door frame not give me a ground? If so this means the door has come ungrounded what should I do if that is the case.
