Default Weird tach operation

Just bought an 81 and at idle the tach seems fine. As you accelerate the tach begins to climb but stops at approx 1300-1400 rpm. You can imagine my eyes when I saw the tach at that mark while I was going 65!

What should I begin to check?

out by the distributer there should be a tach filter.

coming out of the HEI follow the tach wire to the filter
and unplug the tach lead from it then unplug the filter from the
HEI unit and plug the tach directly in to the distributer.

this will bypass the filter so you can see if thats whats causing
your problem but DONT run the car for an extended period
bypassed as it can damage the tach board.

if it still does the same thing or has already been bypassed
then it sounds like the problem i had which was a dead circuit
board on the back of the tach.

if this is the case contact ACECO ( George ) here on the C3 forum.
he recently fixed my board. and may be able to help you out also.
