Well I finally broke that little spade connector off of my temprature sending unit for the temp gauge. I got a replacement at NAPA, but it reads way high, like 220 instead of 180, I read somewhere that someone else had a similiar problem with a sending unit reading off, anybody know where a good source would be for an accurate sending unit for my application.
Re: Proper temp sending unit for 73 LS-4 (73 LS-4)
I broke mine off last fall and replaced it with a autoparts store replacment and it reads 40 degrees high. Can you just put a resistor inline to accomodate the difference?? I need to find a good replacment also, or how do you calibrate the gauge to the sending unit?????
Re: Proper temp sending unit for 73 LS-4 (BigBlockVette)
Hey Dwayne,
You didn't happen to buy yours from NAPA as well did you?, since mine reads off the same as your evidently. Hope somebody comes up with an answer for us soon, I don't know what's worse, not having any reading on the temp gauge, or looking at it reading 220 all the time
Re: Proper temp sending unit for 73 LS-4 (73 LS-4)
Somebody must know of a good source of accurate sending units for these. I like how all the vendors say the GM units may be out of calibration, that makes me real confident in trying another one.
Re: Proper temp sending unit for 73 LS-4 (73 LS-4)
Just a thought, could you use a multimeter to check the resistance of the old sending unit and then find a new sending unit that has the same resistance?
I've been one of the more vocal people about this problem. Replaced mine and it reads about 40+ degrees to high. I was talking to some local guys at the vette shop in town and they said that all the Delco replacements read too hot -- that delco is aware of the problem but don't have an ETA on the fix. Most of the people on the forum have just went and tested a bunch of units until they got one that works properly.
Re: Proper temp sending unit for 73 LS-4 (Corellian Corvette)
Well looks like I'll be stoipping by the parts store tomorrow with my DVOM till I find one that reads the same as my old sending unit, wish me luck, if nothing else maybe a resister inline would solve the problem.
