On monday I started installing my 72 rear window into my 73. The window was sealed to the body with a silicone sealant. The wire cutting sealant method did not work. The silicone was too tough, me to weak, plus I did not want to damage the glass. I finally used a Stanley utility knife to cut the silicone and took my time. I scraped off the silicone from the body , called to quits for the day. Total work time about one and a half hours, help from my 9 year old helper and trips for more blades about two hours. Actually my helper held the window as I was making the final cut so that it would not fall out. Thursday evening I will be gluing in the weatherstripping with a black silicone rubber. I didn't think much of the yellow weatherstripping adhesive. Once I got the trim out I realized that I needed J type spring nuts to secure the screws that hold the latches and bottom plates, so another trip to Lowes for these items. Tonight I cleaned up the latches and window frame. Hopefully Saturday I will mount the latches, bottom plates and insert the window.
To those planning on doing this "upgrade" patience will be needed, if not nicks and dings will result around the body opening. I had alot of small pieces of silicone all over the rear deck and on the blanket I laid in the rear storage area.
