Default Paint question. Would this work?

ok, first some background.
My car is currently a non-stock color (purple). It was painted by one of the previous owners, and I believe it is a "custom" color.

I don't really care for the color and I will be repainting it. However, it may be a while.

In the meantime, I would like to do sometning about some of the small chips and nicks in the paint.

Now bear with me.

I have used testors model paint to refurbish the nose and gas lid emblems, so I know it will hold up fairly well.

What I'm wondering is:
If I mix the testors model paint and get it to match the current paint on the car, could I use it to fill in some of the chips and nicks?
Followed by light sanding/polishing of course.
None of the blemishes are larger than say 1/8" and most of them are much smaller than that.

Anyone know of any reason why this wouldn't work?

If you use clearcoat (let's say one of these touch up kits) it should be fine

Would I need to use a clear coat even if the paint on the car is a single stage? (sorry, forgot to mention that!)

I don't think the model car paint is very durable but I may be wrong... I'd topcoat it with clear and the polish/buff.

Testor's paint is pretty durable. Don't try to sand and buff it though. It won't shine up. I build a lot of models and I have tried it.

Good to know.
I figured someone would have some experience.
I'll try and just fill in the nicks as smooth as possible.
Thanks for the info!
