Headlight Switch Removal?? How To??

ANY SUGGESTIONS ON THE EASIEST WAY TO REMOVE A HEADLIGHT SWITCH ON A 79?? i WOULD ASSUME IT'S THE SAME AS MY 78?

Unscrew the bezel & push the button on the switch to release the ****/shaft. Remember where the vacuum goes.

push the button?? you mean the lil spring loaded button on the bottom of the whole switch unit?

Yep. I never knew that button was there, till I broke the thing and had to track down a new one. Just reach under the dash with your right hand and push/ pull the stack with your left. A really big flat head screw drive works well for unscrewing the bezel that holds the whole thing in. It is exactly like your 78.

They have been that way for 40 years..

I got it, geez they could had left a lil more slack in the wire harness! Thanks Guys.

One other thing to remember is unless you have disconneted the battery there are HOT wires behind the cluster and going to the switch. I found out the hard way with my 79 when I replaced the headlight switch. Gary B.
