You don't have to completely remove the diff, but you will have to remove the rear cover, which means taking the upper x-member off to get to the clips on the yokes. There are actually snap-rings holding the yokes in, so you'll need some 90* pliers to get them out. Good luck, and try not to get carried away with the 'while I'm at it' when you get under there. I ended up removing everything and replacing, well nearly everything!

Too late, I already did, long ago.
I changed most every thing but the axle stubs 5 years ago, but now they are just too worn and I will soon not be able to pass tech inspection for autocrossing. It was a mistake not to change them at the time, but all it really cost me is another tear down of the rear end. It is still clean enough back there that I may be able to get the diff bolts of the cover without removing the crossmember.
Look for a paper written by GTR1999. He's the man when it comes to the Corvette differential. I followed his paper and had my diff out in 1.5 hours, alone, with hand tools. It was easier to swap out the yokes on the bench where I could use a magnet and pick up all the chips that came off the end of my mushroomed parts. At that point I changed out the yoke bearings and seals too.
