Default Clearance issues

I have a ZZ3 350cid in my ‚71 convertible. At the present I’m running a Holley 700 DP and have 1 – 2mm clearance. Since the Holley is giving me loads of trouble, I have ordered a Demon 650 DP. I put one on my cobra and was very happy with it’s performance. I want to put the ½” spacer in as well. Now I will have serious clearance issues. Can I put a big block hood on my car without any major modifications, can I use the same hinges and so on? What other options do I have?

I dont think the BB hood will be a problem ..other than getting the paint to match
When you say spacer, are you talking about a phenolic (Heat sync)riser/spacer?
I found it necessary when running a Holley to stop the fuel from boiling or percolating as they say.
What Intake are you using?

The spacer is aluminum, ½” in height (4 hole). I bought it from FBO (www.4secondsflat.com) along with the 650 speed demon. I do not have heat issues so I hope all will work out. The guy there Don, makes a competent impression (all subjective on my part) and feels this is how to do it! The intake is a standard from crate for the ZZ3 engine (dual plane high-rise with dual pattern carb flange for Holley 4” overall height).

Great
Like I said, the only problem I see is the paint issue
I am not by any means a body man but from what I understand, Silver or gray is very difficult to match.
I may be wrong so I would wait for a more educated reply.

Bob,
do you know the clearance gain I would get (in inches) with a BB hood?
Agian, it's a 1971.
Thanks

There needs to be at least about 3/4" clearance over the Holley vent tubes.

68-72 standard hoods have limited clearance. There would not be enough clearance w/ the stock low rise hood. The stock LT-1/BB hood & stock low drop base filter w/o spacer should work though somewhat restrictive.

The hi rise L-88 hood would work.
An aftermarket 76-79 type med. rise hood allows the Victor Jr, RPM & others on SB w/ aftermarket dropbase filter & Holley.

yeah, I have the drop base with a k&n extream air filter. I'm not sure but I think the 76-79 hoods wont work with my '71 hinges???
