Since my car isn't running, me and a friend decided to mount my 17x9.5 5" backspace Centerline wheels on his 80 Corvette (pictured below). Suprisingly, the front didn't require the 3/8 spacer I thought it would. It cleared the tie rods just nicely. It rubbed on the sway bar and frame a little bit but heck, what C3 with bigger than stock tires doesn't!?!? The rear was a different story. We attempted to not use a 3/8 spacer only to find out that the calipers would rub. So on went the spacer and wheel but I wasn't happy with the amount of stud grab we got with the stock studs. I would highly, and I mean highly, reccomend extended studs in the rear. You wouldn't want to autocross with little stud grab as you would have mega flex happening. Also, we thought we would have to cut and relocate the park brake cable brackets but they cleared. Not buy much, but before we took his car for a test run we jounced the suspension in all directions. No rubbing on the park brake cable brackets or the ends on the steel spring. We drove it around for 3 days with no problems. He really wanted to autocross for the event we hosted, but we both agreed not to since that could have put too much stress on the rear studs. All in all it worked out pretty well. Just thought i'd share this info with you guys.
This isn't me, it's the owner of the car. But it is in front of my house!!
