Default Fuel gauge

Man, everytime I take the car for a ride it seems like something goes wrong ;( Today, I had about 3/4 of a tank of gas and after pulling off the highway I noticed the fuel dropped to under a 1/4. Pulled off at the nearest gas station and looked for a leak. After I concluded all looked good, I filled it up to verify I wasn't loosing my mind(long week at work). Got home and searched the furums and found a thread that mentions to test by disconnecting the gray wire found under the gas cap and turn the key on. The guage went to full. Now, i'm not sure what this telles me or what to test next. I did hit some large bumps on 495, could this have loosened something? Any other ideas?

the new low sulfur fuel used nation wide is causing problems with gas tank sending units in almost any car, the sulfur corodes the contacts in the sending unit. try using some of Chevrons Techron Concentrate Plus in your fuel, it helps clean the corrosion from the sender. it is recommended to use a bottle every 3 to 6,000 miles, note techron is in chevrons gasoline but at a very low concentration.
