I used to have a dropbase aircleaner on my old engine up until we did a vortec swap when installing the aircleaner, I noticed that it was hitting the plug wires by the distributor. Any suggestions on what to use for this setup will be appreciated.

I had the same problem on my 76 with the 14" K&N filter. I notched the back of the air cleaner base just enough to clear the HEI. It wasn't a big enough notch to leave a gap between the filter and the base so there was no sealing problems between the filter and the base. Just a suggestion.

This pic is of the new setup? How did you get perimeter-bolt V/Cs on Vortecs? (you have the same Holley V/Cs as I have on my stock heads, I want to keep using them when I buy Vortecs...)
I believe you can get a base that is offset so the filter is moved forward about an inch. I dont know who makes it but I use to have one on a Trans Am years ago.

If you have a welder, you can make your own offset base, from the base you currently have. If you offset the base, you'll need to bend your air cleaner mounting stud accordingly.

i'm using an adaptor i picked up on ebay. it bolts onto the center bolts of the head and has studs on the side to enable you to use old style valve covers.
