I realized late last night that I did not have any brake lights so I did not drive the car today to work which sucked. I have noticed for the last week or so that my fiber optics were not lighted when I hit the brake pedal. All other lights works (headlights, regular rear driving lights, reverse, etc.) including the fiber optics for all other lights, but no brake lights and no fiber optic brake light indicator. Can you guys give me some direction on where to start looking? Is there just one fuse that controls the brake lights? I also had to have the accelerator pivot rod replaced (been jamming too hard on the gas pedal lately ) about 2 weeks ago and wonder if somehow there is a connection/sensor up under the dash next to the brake pedal that could have been disconnected during the installation of the accelerator pivot bracket.
Check to see if your signals or 4ways work. This tests the fuse bulbs and grounds.
Then start at fuse panel and check for power at the hazard /signal fuse. If not replace fuse. If good,
With brake pedal depressed...
Go to brake switch by the brake pedal and test for power in and out. If not change switch. If good,
Then go to large connector at steering column and test for power on the brake switch side. If good.
Then go to large connector at steering column and test for power on the steering column side. If not clean contacts. If good,
Then test each wire on same side of connector on steering column. Should be 2 that lite up. If not change signal switch in column. If good,
Test on other side of connector, If not clean contacts. If good.
Go to each rear socket and test the contacts. If good,
You have brake lites.
If uou lose power in between any of these places then a wire is bad.
Go to brake switch by the brake pedal and test for power in and out.
This is the first place I would look
Make sure the switch is moving freely and is making contact to the tab on the brake pedal
I noticed a few weeks ago that I had to push the pedal very hard to get the brake lights to come on
I adjusted the switch and now they come on with the lightest touch on the pedal
Well....we finally got figured it out this morning. It ended up being the connections in the fuse box have built up some slight corrosion on them where the brake light fuse is so after some light sanding it works now again perfectly. Thanks for the suggestions...
