Was wondering what seat tracks are used when swaping out 76' seats for 78'-82' seats?
Does it matter or can you use either,do bolt holes line up from one to the other?
thanx wade
I landed a set of C5 seats, full power on both. They will physically fit, but sit way too high (3"-4"). Due to the motors, the only option I could envision is to cut and lower my floorboards. Since my floorboards are mostly fiberglass with some metal layered in for bolts etc. I don't think it will be that difficult with the body off the frame. Unfortuneately, that's 2-3 years away and I'm not interested in trying to get them installed before I pull the body.
If you went for manual C5 seats, you may be able to modify the C5 tracks and lower the seats almost 3".
ok thanks 74roadster im short anyway and now with the 4 inch cowl hood the higher the better for me..but like you said manuals might work out better for me..and recessing the floors should be mo problem either since like you said they are glass.
I have '79 seats in my '76. I love em! They are very comfy. Unfortunately I did not install them. I do need to pull them, recover them, and work on the mounting a little (the drivers side quit sliding back). Anyways, they rock! And hopefully someone can give us a little more detail on how they fit.
The C5 seats are too high. Some modification will be required or you'll look funny how you'll sit in the car. Since I have C5 power seats, I didn't even look at swapping the tracks, that may be an option???
I think that's an awesome idea :D . I've sat in some C5's and let me tell you, it's VERY nice. It's got the butt grove already built in. . I don't mean to steal your idea, but I'm thinking about trying to find a set to put in my 76' now. I love how they feel. My seats have seen better days. :jester . If I find out the dimensions I'll send you an email.
i've been kind of keeping an eye out for c4 seats 'cause they are supposed to bolt in with the right combo of brackets. latley i'm also considering 84-85 fiero seats 'cause they are pretty comfortable and small width wise and because those years have speakers in the headrest (i just need small ones for rear fill). someone here said they did it but i can't find it in search anymore to know what they did. i know it took some fabbing.
And at the bottom it says "NOTE: Listed above are recommended exterior/interior color combinations. However, any exterior color may be ordered with any interior color. "
I really love that z06 Red & black in my previous post... too bad my interior is cream... although it does need redoing....
I love my 79 seats, but I bet those z06 seats are like warm apple pie.....
I bought a pair of used '79-'80 seats in the houston Vette show for $200 and I am in the process of installing them in my 77 vette i roughly look at the rails from my 77 seats and the rails from the 80 and they match. Also the reason why I bought this seat style is because is the only one with the swivel located in the mid backseat its easier to get the Nitrous bottle and any other items that i stowed behind the seat.
We are using 88-89 C4 seats. We used the 77 seat brackets. To get the proper front uptilt, use some washers under the front bolts. I would guess any year C4 seat would work, but they must be manual. There is no room for the electric gear when using the 77 seat tracks, because they are ax. and inch and a half lower than the C4 tracks. I love sitting in them. Bet they will be great to drive in, too!
I'll try and get some measurments of my stock seats and the C5 seats I have as well as their respective weights on Friday. The C5 seats fit very well expect they are too tall and bolt holes aren't close. I decided if I was going to swap seats, then they had to be 6-way power   I'm going to rebuild this car and head down a very custom road (similar to what Bhays is doing, he just started before me. :cry :cry As much as I want to do I figured I might as well go first class with everything. Just hope I finish the car before my boy starts driving (he's 9 months) :D :D
That sounds great... Keep us posted on how you guys are doing. I'm very interested in customizing the c3s. I just put in E-code lights, and I got intellitronix digital gauges. I'm waiting for my tilt/tele steering column & duntov style wheel to come in the mail, and the console looks nice with a 1din size aftermarket headunit.
