Im not talkin about boobies here  Im talkin bout my pop up lights on my 73 shark. Driving at night and hitting road bumps and whatnot, I see my headlights bouncing and vibrating. I know its with the pop ups ,but is there a way to secure these things stable while still mantaining proper function? Do I have a worn part or loose bushing or something?
Probably worn bushings on the pivot shafts for the headlight doors. A royal PITA to get at them, since you have to remove the entire headlight door. I've just learned to live with it ;)
If it's not your bushings there is also a metal rod with an adjusting nut at the back of the assembly. When the lights open the nut on this rod hits a stop plate and the nut determines, to a degree, how high the lights pop up. From what I can tell it also helps in keeping your lights tight up against the stop so they don't jiggle up and down.
Mine jiggled when I first got the car and also rattled from not holding the light assembly tight against the stops. All I did was adjust the nut to the point where it was tight against the stop without binding the light to stop the wiggle. To get rid of the rattle I put a thin layer of GE silicone on the nut face and the area that it contacted the stop and let it dry (the lights were in the down position to do this of course). Voila...no more jiggles and no more rattling. My bushings were ok.
My headlights were rock solid until I pulled the actuators to replace the seals. After I did some adjusting :smash: , my headlights would bounce & jiggle  .
The nice thing about trying to adjust the headlights is, it's FREE :D If it doesn't work, you can always check the bushings later.
Get an Assembly Instruction Manual for your year. There is a headlight adjustment proceture in there. There is an overlock the the rod goes to and will lock your headlights in the up position. If adjusted properly, they shouldn't bounce unless a piviot bushing is worn out.
