BlackRat,

I mounted the oil temp gauge sending unit where the stock oil pressure sending unit was at. This is where the 82 mounted the sending unit. The oil pressure gauge is mechanical so I installed it into the port at the back of the intake manifold. As far as the fuel gauge goes that is an interesting story. Seems the 78 through 82 does not use the standard (and I believe this is correct but I need to look again) 90 ohm gm sending unit. I did use the stock wiring but pulled the sending unit and tweeked the arm a little. I need to experiment with a resistor to see if I can bring the gauge back to reading true tank quantity. I actually did the center console gauges a year ago or so. The fuel gauge reads full correct but reads empty when I still have a quarter of a tank or so. I will need to get my manual out and look at the wiring schematics to be able to tell you the exact wires and what color. I will try to post that info in the near future.

BTW Jetmech your install is just killer clean, I did my phantom install several years back and did a write up of the install, I would love to see a write up of how you did yours.

I didnt own a digital camera at the time so i couldnt really document the project beyond writing about it.

Fauxrs2,

Great write up on the install and good schematics as well. I did not take as many pictures as I should have but I was able to acquire a second metal back for the console gauges and a second cluster housing for the speedo and tach. This will allow me to put the car back to stock in the future if I would desire to do so. I used angle gauge bezels for the center console so this covered up what augering I had to do to the stock bezel. Plus it gives somewhat of a cockpit type feel to the driver as you are setting in the car. The manufacturer of the speedo cables is Pioneer Inc. automotive products. Hope this helps.
