Here is a piece...I cut what I needed from bottom half...that "V" edge helps keep exposed edge straight....I can ship you a 6 ft length...we must have 40 L/F of this stuff not being used....you can cut what you need with scissors...it rolls up,and will fit in a small box...

Yes..that is correct....in fact, think it works much like turning vanes in big ventilation ducts...I know there is turbulance where air hits my stock spoiler/extension...

Today I wrapped up scoop test..no gain/loss at lower speeds as expected..
I removed scoop and took license plate and mounting bracket off....I had no idea that it was closed off behind bracket on the 78... so I cleaned/painted plate bracket/Scoop and put everything back...

I'll run with the scoop for awhile for the 4-5 degree reduction..

I would widen the duct 3 inches on each side. You would be surprised how much more air will be forced thru it with a few extra square inches of air pushing its way thru!

Thats a great Idea!! I wonder if building a scoop across the entire valance panel would make an even greater differance in cooling.
I'll have to fab something up to test here with the forecast for 100*+ for the rest of the week.

Great work rihwoods

Yep..I agree..
Just got back from running at 70 mph with A/C on...temps leveled out at 200 and just sat there...so back to the drawing board to redesign this turkey...it's the mounting I have to work out..don't want to drill holes in valance..also,I'd like to make one from plastic..
Here is pic..hard to see temp gauge, but it is straight up...

If you can, make it from plastic or something other than sheetmetal...that is my next project...and pic explains why...

Went to Pep Boys this morning and came and noticed I almost whacked it.. And don't go deeper than 2 1/2"....

I'm retarded..I mean retired... This is fun...I can experiment with the 78 and use the 69 for the pucker factor...
Curious now about this "ram " air effect...and running the original A/C condensor....the 78 C/B is 5 years old...think I'll go ahead and re-set calibration on the clutch fan....

Way more than I expected. Not sure why it is cooling it off that much.

Drove around Sunday morning and could never get the fans to come on. Even sitting at stop lights. Average drop was 10 to 25 degrees. I'm going to have to plug this thing in the winter.

I've often thought about cutting the two BB hood scoopes out to see if that would help extract some heat out of the compartment , but I'm 2 chicken to cut my hood

My new TT hood (see avatar) did the same (NACA ducts cut out, plus about 2" of opening across the cowl), was running 190-ish now won't go past 170 no matter what I do. Inside of the car is also noticably cooler.

I've been wondering if a high rise hood would do the same thing!

LOL,
It's a good thing you didn't whack it off!!

I'm thinking about making it out of the remaining pieces of the original hood, and glassing it to a used valance panel. I'll think of something.
You may have one of the best ideas for cooling down our cars yet.

Maybe I should take those 2 10 inch electric fans I was using for the radiator and move them to the two openings behind the front wheels to help remove hot air from the engine compartment?????

I'm just thinking back to Rich's "tuft" tests. At speed, his car (okay all our cars) is taking air IN from:

the cowl
the side vents
the grills/front/below the spoiler (obviously)

So where is all the air GETTING OUT? Other than a couple hundred CFM that's getting inhaled/combusted, I'd guess that most of it is leaving through the bottom of the engine compartment, then below the car and out the sides??

I dunno, is all this getting-more-air in just increasing the high-pressure area under the car? That can't be good for high-speed stability/aero.

Alas on the 78 and all the rubber nose cars I imagine... there is a big fat steel plate that is hidden behind the eurathane that is our legal 5 mph bumper...it is bracketed and welded to the frame.. so no opening that up

Neat thing is the air is being directed right into the radiator..so air is flowing thru a small opening into a larger plenum...(engine compt.)
