OK. I have a 74 BBC and have replaced every wiring harness but the dash. I had the advantage of most everything that was original being there to " pull the old one off, put the new one on". The very best thing for you to get is one of the following: a Haynes repair manual, you can find them new for about $15-$20, or used at Amazon or ebay, or an assembly manual, which you can get from Mid America, or Zip or any of the other catalog suppliers, or what I have heard is the best wiring diagram reference, there is a guy who makes oversize easy to read wiring diagrams, and has been mentioned on the forum. I believe he said he was going to Carlisle, PA and sell his stuff.
OK. The solution is to get a correct diagram for your 74, and take the wires that you do not know, match the color(black/pink stripe, whatever ) to the diagram that yo have. There will be a few easy ones, and then maybe a mystery or two, but you will evebtually get themn all for the options that your car came with. This is important to remember, as the replacement harnesses include wires for most of the available options. If your car did not have it new, you will not use that wire.
I am assuming that you are struggling with an harness that is in the motor compartment.
Good luck, and when you get to the last one or two, ask the forum, we"ll help.
