Default Rotor thickness spec.

Can anyone tell me what the rotor thickness specifications are for the brakes (1978 if that matters)- front and rear - I need "Machine to" and "Discard" specifications for the thickness of the rotors. I've got a brake shop telling me that all my rotors are out of spec and since the rear ones came with my Van Steel offset trailing arms and are less than 5 years old so I cant imagine that they are out of spec.

In any case if they are out of spec I can replace those myself, but I need the numbers.

TIA

My stock rotors had the limit stamped on the rotor...take a look at yours. Mine says MIN THICK 1.215 on the outside hub of the rotor where the wheel lug studs are located.

I took a set off my '73 with just over 40k on them a few years back that were in excellent shape. I was replacing them with set of dimpled and plated rotors I purchased from VB&P.

I decided the originals were in such good shape with nary a groove that I would bead blast and paint them and put them away for a future project, when I would turn them to remove the paint on the face of the rotors. After all this I decided to mic them as a fluke. One was at the min thickness and one was just below.

As mentioned already the min thickness was cast into the rotor and most shops will not turn them if they're at or below this thickness.

They won't turn them if they are already at or below that number. But, if they turn them and it does go below that number, then they have you sign a waver to indicate that you understand that they are under spec. Mine just went under spec. and it was the first time they were turned.
