Default Which Cam?

Ahh, the old Cam question comes up.

Right now I have a '73 L-48 and I'm thinking about a cam swap (once I figure out the cooling issue -- see my other post).

The car runs like a dream. Not much has been done to the engine other than a new carb (Edelbrock Q-jet replacement), Performer Intake Manifold, and 2.5in duals to Flowmaster mufflers. I know I'm going to get grief for this, but I took the previous owners Flowtech headers off, and went back to the 2in ramhorns. With the new 2.5in pipes and flowmasters, the car doesn't feel any different from a power standpoint.

So, I have the intake and (somewhat) exhaust part done. I would like to get a mild cam that doesn't have a lumpy idle, and I don't want something that stresses the car too much. I don't want to change the heads and all the internals (not looking to do an engine rebuild), but I'd like a nice, solid cam to get some more "oomph"

With my intake and exhaust, will a cam make a difference? Any recomendations on a cam that will work with my setup?

Thanks!

I have roughly the same set up as you and the Comp Cam 260H was recommended to me...I like it...no rough idle, etc. Might be what your looking for. Performance really improved with it. Probably others will recommend something something else but I'll stick with this one... :seeya

Stay under 220 degree intake duration.....use a wide lobe seperation angle....something like a strong RV cam...unless you're ready to change your torque convertor to a higher stall. Check out Comp Cams...they have a nice selection.
