I am planning on dropping my trans. Never have done this before , do not have a lift. How high off the ground do I need to get the car to drop the trans. ?? And if the are any tricks I need to know on removal, or reinstalling it??? This is on a 427 BB 4 speed standard
You'll need at least enough room to clear the tranny with a jack under it. Measure from the bottom of the tranny to the top of the bell housing and add the heigth of the jack plus another couple of inchs. For an auto, first remove the dip stick tube.

If you want an answer worth a damn you might want to take the time to fill out your profile so the members have some idea what year, auto, 4 speed ect: your talking about.

Geeze........ this happens all the time WTF?
I guess we need to take a course in Cyber Mind Reading
If its a standard without a removable crossmember I wouldnt touch it.....years ago and before too many back surgerys, yes.... today no way.
I just paid a shop $400 in labor to install a new clutch in my 73'... worth every cent
it is a 4 speed standard muncie, 427 BB 1968 convertable
I suggest you do a forum search on transmission removal (dont forget to include :archives")
As I posted above , if the crossmember isn't removeable (automatics were removeable, 4 speeds were not as far as I know)
I would assess your skills, equipment and patients as this is (in my opinion) not an easy task...
Some will say it's easy, some will say it's a nightmare.
Do the research and decide for yourself
I used jack stands at full extension.
No tranny jack, unless you count my arms.
I recommend the Chiltons Manual and the Shop Manual.
I also recommend a helper to grab the right size tool after you crawl under the car without it. (This would have saved me several hours).
Take pictures of it before you undo anything. Just for referance.
I'm good at taking things about. It the remembering how they go back together than can bite me.
Its a PITA but can be done.
Get the best shop manual you can for your year.

Sure makes helping people easier if their profile is filled out.
I would say get as high as you can (large jack stands). I changed my 74 to a 4 spd. it's cross member came out. The 75 I got the trans from did not. Good luck.
