Default Upper dash pad replace

I need to replace the upper dash pad on my 70. Can it be replaced without removing all front dash panels? Need to replace the speakers also while at it. What is the best way to remove the upper dash pad, where are clips, etc? Where is the best place to get the new one also?

Pillar pads out. Front left and right dash pads and center bezel at least loosened but I believe you are better served to take them out.

Sponsors of this site are excellent resources for pad. I recommend them highly. Al Knock and Willcox have also brought me success.

I have been watching Willcox on ebay. Better prices than on their website.

The only fasteners are the ones you can see at the top of the lower pads and the center gauge cluster. The front of the dash pad has tabs that slide into a bracket. Once the screws are out you pull the pad rearward a bit to loosen the front. You will have to bend the pad a little to get it past the pillars. Better to replace in the summer than the winter. The pad is more flexible and there is less risk of it cracking when you bend it.

There is one bracket that screws the upper dash pad to the firewall surface behind the right dash panel. Make sure you remove that screw before you attempt to remove it. I tried to remove the dash when I changed the speakers in my '71 (also added speakers in the kick panel areas). It didn't want to bend easily and come out, so I moved it as far as I could and was able to get to the speakers. Good luck.
