I've got to put a new water pump on my car and am wondering whether to go with stock or something like a "Kool-it" that advertises a much higher flow rate. I've heard both sides of the argument about water flowing too fast for the radiator to cool it. I just want to do everthing I can to keep the coolant under 200F this time around. Car is a 1974 with an L48, headers, Edelbrock perfomer, Q-jet, Griffin aluminum radiator.
Hard to say. I wouldn't be biased to go with an aluminum one. It'll disapate more heat than the cast iron unit on there now. I think kool-it does make a good product. Did you see the one jegs sells that is fully rebuildable. That seems like a good selling point.
Thanks for the info. I placed an order for the Stewart Components pump. Their tech info page made a lot of sense. Also there must be something to it if all those NASCAR teams are using them. Between the new pump, Griffin radiator, and the other little mods, I hope to be able ride around down here in Florida in the summer, with the air on and not get hot! :U
I was looking to replace the water pump too as preventive maintainance (1979 82K miles and hot FL weather too) and that Stewart looks very good for the price.
Now I am wondering if I went with a radiator too small; 3 core ? :confused: What were they stock, 2 or 3 core?
I installed an Edelbrock Victor water pump last year. It was expensive +-$ 150.00, but I had no problems with the install and it is working like a charm since.
I've had my Edelbrock Victor Series water pump on my car for four years with out a problem. You'll have to check with yosshimura to find out who really made my water pump, intake and heads but WTF, if they work great who cares? :cheers:
