UPdate on the Cs144. Think I fried the first boneyard one. Never could get it working. Opted for a new one from the Zone. Only one concern...charging at almost 14.72v at idle. Doen't increase a whole lot with RPM's. To much? Concerns? The battery was not fully charged when I cranked it. Thoughts? Thanks for all the help...shafrs, Durango, Batman and everyone else. Doesn't miss a lick when the headlights and in particular, the Mark VIII amp sucker kicks on!
Whats the voltage at te Battery?
This is exactly why you do not want a bigazzed wire from the alternator to the battery, overcharging. Your alternator voltage is not out of line and the rest of the tron stuff on the car will Love it.
Have you done the Relay upgrade to the headlights and Fan yet?

I'm averaging 14.72 @ idle. Maybe should check once battery is fully charged. No relay upgrade yet. No wire are getting hot at this point. I'm watching it close though
You are going to be fine with that voltage. My 61 amp alt runs higher than that. It takes 14.2 volts just to keep the battery fully charged, so that is a minimum you need. Good to hear you got it going!
Bernie
14.7 at the alt is fine, it should drop off soon, down to 13.5 plus or minus .2........after the battery recovers....anything less than 13.3 while running a while is harder on the battery....
I can't test mine until I track down some cut wires. I don't have a switched 12V to the alt because of some snips on the main harness. Otherwise it'll work.
J,
How did you finally get it hooked up and working? which CS144 did you get, what S/N?
Bernie
Bernie,
Gold Duralast part number DLG1404-6-10
The wiring was done as stated above. Made my own pigtail with the 330ohm resister in the switched 12v line. Used "S" and "L" wires off the CS144. No others

So according to that part number, which amp alt does he have?
Bernie was saying that there are many different variations of the CS144. I don't know how to tell which is which by the part number, and I was wondering if he did.
To my knowledge they are all 140 amps. The difference lies in how they work with an individual vehicle's computor circuitry, not the amps they produce.
Bernie
If it helps... I ordered mine for a 1996 Cadillac Deville Concourse with Northstar V8 and non heated windshield
Lifetime warranty on either the
GOLD-DURALAST
140 Amp DLG1404-6-10
or
DURALAST
140 Amp DL1404-6-10
There is no way to tell by the serial number without a book. That is why I ask the rebuild specialist how mine should be wired to my car based on the CS144 I have.
Bernie
This may be a stupid question. I'm also going to upgrade my alternator and I understand the need for heavier wire. Where have you guys found #8 gauge wire? The fattest wire I've seen in any auto parts store is #10. Is there some secret supplier for wire or are you using Home Depot electricians wire? Thanks
