I have a 1975 L48 with a 4-speed. The car has 66,000 original miles.
When the car is cold it works great, but after 45 minutes of driving I'm hearing scraping or grinding from the rear end, when starting, mainly in 1st gear but also audible in 2nd, at very low speeds. Noise goes away at higher speeds! Park the car for a few hours (until rear end cools) no noise! U-joints are tight and wheel bearings are good! I believe noise is in the differential. Any suggestions appreciated before I take the rear end apart.
Cheers

I would change rear end fluid-use 2 qts GM fluid with 2- 4oz containers of additve.Put the additive in first then top off with fluid.
