My dash lights on my 82 Vette are very dim, is this normal? If not then how can I fix the problem? Anybody have any suggestions? It is the whole dash, not just one area. Even the lights on my add on gauges are dim. The dome light is bright.
I HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM I changed the alternator, the battery, the light switch and the bulbs still the same............checked all the wiring still no joy.I think this is normal for an 82

Its possible the coil part of the dimmer in the headlight switch. Its circular in shape. When you turn the **** a rod slides along the coil. It gets brighter as you get further along the coil. It the coil breaks close to the beginning your lights will only brighten to the break point. Easy way to check. Turn the dimmer from dim to full bright. If you hit a point that the lights stop brightening but yet the **** continues to turn with nothing happening you have found the break point.. If the brightness continues evenly during the full turn its another problem. My bet is its the coil.
I have turned the ****, that was my first check. I will start all the other suggestions and see what happens. Thanks to all of you for your responses, keep them coming.
How bad is it Spike?
Are some gauges brighter than others?
My gauges are dim but when its dark out they are well readable
Not nearly as bright as a newer vehicle but bright enough
I dont think you want to tangle with the dash just to brighten things up a little bit.
Thats a place I dread thinking of, never mind actually trying to get it apart with out destroying something
I can see all the gauges at night and all the gauges are readable and the same brightness. My mind tells me that it could be brighter. Your probably right, not an area that my knowledge needs to tackle right now.
