Any of you gear heads install a Keisler 5 speed in a 1982 Corvette?
I am considering this for my winter project and want to know what kind of pitfalls I may run into with regard to the onboard computer and emissions if I make this change over.
Lets hear it...
I have made this switch on my 82 , I bought the tremec outright [ not a kit ] and installed it . The pedals etc can be a bit trying , tranny installation is very simple ,,,,,,,,,, dummy level !

What did you do about the rear tranny mount to the crossmember ?

I used the Transmission mount adapter found here {{Corvette Crossmember Adapter 350/4 Speed to 700 R4 in Dual Exhaust Crossmembers}} though I got mine from Bowtie Overdrives and not these guys.
The Tremec apparantly has the same mount location as a 700r4 - leastways the mount lined up perfectly for me.
The 3550 tremec mount position is not the same as a 700r .
You need to fabricate a small tab and weld it to the 82 crossmember . I can take some pics when you get to your project if necessary. The drive shaft length is the same and you can get a conversion u joint to fit the tremec yoke .

One more thing about 80-82 crossmembers, you can't use them period, at least on mine there wasn't enough room to fit the the tail housing above the crossmember without hitting the tunnel.
I had to get a older 2 hole crossmember and modify the ends so it would fit in my frame. I am not sure what the vendors are doing these days for 80-82's with regards to the crossmember.
I have tremec tko 600,in my 69 and hate it,i have had two, sent one back because it wouldn't shift very well into any gear, the 2nd has the same problem but is a little better,i am going to a t-56 this winter.
I bought the kit from Keisler back in April and have yet to install it. The kit came with a crossmember. I am planning to install it during December too. I'll correspond with you as I work on my corvette and let you know how things go.

I courious why you choose not to use the kit? Was it the Cost?
My 82 is completely stock bumper to bumper. Did you experience any engine operation problems such as with the onboard computer after you installed the tranny?
I live in Illinois where emissions are tested. Have you gone thru an emission test since installing the transmission?

really? man, most of us here with tremek stuff (particularly from Keisler) - TKO 600 or 500 love em - they seem to be very durable and shift great. can you be specific as to what is causing the problems? why would everybody else rave about how theirs shifts - while you have had 2 dogs?
